The Subway

The mystical journey through the Left Fork of North Creek involves route finding, through frigid water over and through difficult obstacles. The quarter-mile passage through the Subway is the most charming segment of the adventure. Deep inside the tubular tunnel glimmers of sunlight trickle into the darkness, allowing algae to grow in the water filled potholes. The green flora creates an eerie turquoise glow that radiates throughout the spectacular chamber.

Water of Life

Encountered many streams along the way hiking, this one stood out with deep rich color of stone bed, algae, fall color leaves and water flowing over it.

Lower Calf Creek Waterfall

Breathtaking desert waterfall is unique feature in Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. The trail follows Calf Creek to the 126' high falls. 6 miles round trip hike is well worth for the reward.

Fall Colors

Fascinating location in Zion National Park. I was drawn to lines cut by wind and water for ages, tree in distance showing fall colors.

Checkerboard Mesa

Entering Zion National Park from the east entrance immediately reveals a colorful display of orange, brown and white slickrock that includes one of the parks landmarks, Checkerboard Mesa. The majestic criss-crossed mountain appears as a massive hill towering 900 feet above the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway and resembles a giant, extended chess or checkerboard.
